You can swim in the lake and water quality is good. Freeze up is about late November to mid May. Soldotna is 5 miles, Kenai is 16 and Anchorage is 150, all road miles. Soldotna has a city airport but no scheduled flights. Kenai has a city airport with commuter service to Anchorage. Anchorage has Ted Stevens International Airport.
Next to Ted Stevens is Lake Hood which is still the most active floatplane lake in the world. Mackey lake has a small population of floatplanes and one commercial operation, Talon Air, which provides fly in hunting and fishing in south central Alaska. The Kenai Peninsula Borough does have a building code but it is not overly restrictive. The most important requirements are for well and septic and even individually the lots can meet those requirements. |
