Grand Lake O the Cherokees Information |
If you’re in search of lake homes for sale in Oklahoma, look to Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees. Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees is known by locals simply as “Grand Lake,” and it is commonly identified by its prized Depression-era structure, the 51-arch Pensacola Dam. In addition to boasting a fully-functioning architectural marvel, Grand Lake stands out as offering some of the finest sailing, bass fishing, and Ozark Mountain landscapes in the region. It’s no surprise, then, that many lake goers have been known to call Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees home.
Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees spans 64 miles and is situated in Green County, in northeast Oklahoma. This lake is one of the few rocky lakes in the state. 1,300 miles of irresistible shoreline wrap and weave around the foothills of the great Ozarks. Speckled with lakefront properties, resorts, and restaurants, Grand Lake’s beaches also call to anglers and water enthusiasts. Bass fishing is especially popular on Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees, which hosts over 400 fishing tournaments each year. Don’t worry about baiting up on a cold day, either—you’re sure to stay nice and toasty on the heated, enclosed docks as you hunt for catfish, bluegill, spoonbill, and crappie.
Since it’s ideally located near the borders of Arkansas, Missouri, and Kansas, Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees attracts water recreation lovers from far and wide. Sail boaters are particularly fond of the lake’s winds due to the lake's northeast-by-southwest orientation. And with 46,500 acres of surface water to navigate, no one can resist the urge to make a splash. Lake properties for sale not only feature the water-front views, but also provide access to more than thirty marinas that line the shoreline.
For a truly leisurely lake experience, charter a private yacht to show you around. Likewise, most lake-view properties lie well within range of the Shangri-la Resort and Conference Center, where the finer side of lake recreation is showcased. You might also enjoy a game of golf at any of the local courses. A few notable links include Patricia Island, Cherokee Grove, and Peoria Ridge. If you’re interested in living on a Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees golf course, visit GolfHomes.com for property listings and details.
The Pelican Festival takes flight each year in Grove City, where white pelicans migrate through town in September. And while they may not be able to keep up with the flocks, the lake’s Cherokee Queen paddle wheel cruisers are just as graceful as they skim across the water.
Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees was created in 1940 with GRDA’s completion of Pensacola Dam. It is one of the premiere lakes in the Midwest and the crown jewel of a chain of lakes in the northeastern Oklahoma region. Its 59,000 surface acres of water are ideal for boating, skiing, fishing, swimming and sailing. In fact, the lake, which lies in a southwest to northeast direction, is popular with sailboat enthusiasts wishing to take advantage of the prevailing wind. With 1,300 miles of shoreline meandering through the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, everything from bustling lakeside communities to quiet secluded coves and lakeside resorts can be found along its shore. Normal surface elevation is 742 feet above sea level. It is consistently ranked among the top lakes for bass fishing in the region. Grand is a haven for migratory waterfowl and other wildlife.
