Lake Tawakoni Information

Keep Texas’s Lake Tawakoni in mind if you’re looking for lake homes for sale. Around 50 miles east of Dallas, Texas, Lake Tawakoni attracts locals and tourists alike with its unspoiled beauty, renowned fishing, and capacity for some serious recreation fun!

Several Native American tribes settled in the area of Lake Tawakoni throughout the centuries. In fact, Tawakoni roughly translates to “river bend among hills” in some native tongues. Today, the lake is perhaps better known for its exceptional fishing than anything else. Anglers have a multitude of fish species to pick from for the great hunt: you’ll find several varieties of bass, catfish, and sunfish, along with black and white crappie, spotted gar, and freshwater drum. Many anglers are rewarded in the winter months with trophy-size blue catfish, but channel and flathead catfish hunting is also good year-round. For bass fishing, narrow your hunt to covered areas like thick vegetation and piers along the shore. While the fishing is spectacular, Lake Tawakoni offers so much more to do and see! Pristine beaches, clean and clear waters, and endless possibilities for outdoor adventures are all on tap at Lake Tawakoni. Lake properties for sale are surrounded by both public and private recreation areas outfitted with accommodations like picnic plots, boat launches, and marinas. Whether you rent your water toy of choice or bring your own, you’ll have it out on the lake in no time. Jet skiing, kayaking, canoeing, motor boating, and pontoon boating are all popular activities on the lake, and with close to 200 miles of shoreline to pick from for your beach towel, you can have fun in the water or on the shore.

Several state parks line Lake Tawakoni. In addition to parks like Purtis Creek, Tyler, and Cedar Hill, Lake Tawakoni State Park offers a number of key accommodations. Seventy-eight full-service campsites, forty picnic sites, and a four-lane boat ramp are only a few of the helpful amenities you’ll find right near your lakefront property. And if a friendly game of golf is what you’re in search of, look no farther than area courses like Stone River, Oak Creek, and the lake’s own Tawakoni Golf Course. If you’d like to live on a Lake Tawakoni golf course, visit GolfHomes.com for property listings and details. And for a dose of Texas history, check out Quitman City’s Governor Hogg Shrine Historic Site, a 26.7-acre facility that hosts three museums.
