Chickamauga Lake Information

Chickamauga Lake is a vibrant destination, attracting millions of visitors each year with its array of recreational opportunities. Located just 20 miles northeast of Chattanooga, the lake is surrounded by a wealth of amenities, including two state parks, two county parks, four municipal parks, and two wildlife centers. Visitors can engage in boating, swimming, fishing, camping, water skiing, and jet skiing on the expansive 810 miles of shoreline covering 35,400 acres.

The lake is formed by the Chickamauga Dam on the Tennessee River, which is part of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) system, allowing easy navigation via locks from Knoxville to the Gulf of Mexico. The water quality is generally good, bolstered by two pristine trout streams that feed into the lake. Depth varies significantly, ranging from shallow areas to depths exceeding 200 feet.

Access to the lake is convenient, and while jet skis and power boats are welcome, it's worth noting that the area is not near a marina. Swimming is permitted, and property owners have common access. The region features winter drawdowns of about 5-8 feet, but the lake remains boat-accessible year-round.

Nearby towns such as Cleveland and Dayton offer full services approximately 15 miles away, while Birchwood is just a short 10-minute drive for basic needs. Chattanooga, about 45 minutes away, provides an excellent airport and a range of urban amenities.

For those considering building in the area, the subdivision consists of 64 lots with specific covenants in place, requiring a minimum of 1,500 square feet for homes, which must have a brick or Hardy Board exterior. The developer, who lives in the community, has created a friendly neighborhood with a strong school district, prohibiting RVs or trailers for a cohesive community feel. Overall, Chickamauga Lake offers a beautiful blend of outdoor recreation and community living.
