Leesville Lake Information

Beautiful, Natural. Peaceful Leesville Lake is 17 miles long with 100 miles of mostly natural shoreline. Perfect for those looking to retire in a small town atmosphere, or even have a vacation home. Although a much smaller lake than Smith Mtn Lake, it covers approximately 4000 acres with lots of places to explore and get-away from the crowds at Smith Mtn Lake (SML). Enjoy boating and fishing here without the crowds of most lakes. One of Virginia's Best kept secrets. The State record inland Striped Bass was caught in this lake, weighed 53 pounds, 7 ounces !

There are about 14 Subdivisions and lots of land around the perimeter of the lake with a variety of types of lake development. Some have upscale homes and building restrictions, others are less strict on types of homes, log homes or cabins, and a very few offer RV life. Ask a Realtor who is familiar with the lake to get the details on which neighborhoods offer what amenities.

Leesville Lake was named after the township of LEESVILLE and is the beautiful "sister" of Smith Mtn Lake and part of the entire Smith Mountain Project developed by Appalachian Power which includes two Dams for hydroelectric clean-electricity to the region. The Staunton River flows out of Leesville dam, and offers great fishing, canoeing and kayaking. A major tributary to LVL lake is the Pigg River that can also be explored by Kayak or canoe from the lake. Nature-lovers will enjoy the much slower pace of Leesville Lake and the surrounding small charming Virginia towns of AltaVista and Gretna, about 20 minutes away. The closest City is Lynchburg followed closely by Roanoke, both have vital downtowns for shopping and dining. The Blue Ridge Mountains are only a couple hours away providing lots of wineries, breweries, hiking, mountain biking, and discovering why "Virginia Is For Lovers." Come discover the true southern Virginia charm in the foothills of the Blue Ridge!
