Our home has a wide open, year around view of a quiet cove and the mountains beyond on beautiful, unspoiled Bull Shoals lake in North Central Arkansas. Bull Shoals is a 60,000 + acre sportsman's paradise with trophy walleye and bass. Hunting and fishing are great right on the property and is also allowed on the Federal strip of property which borders the entire 1,000 mile shoreline, so your outdoor opportunities are unlimited. Because the Corps of Engineers regulates the property immediately surrounding the lake, the area will always remain pristine! The elevation of the home is about 800 feet and the highest that the lake can get is 695.

We swim from late-May through mid to late September. The emerald water is very clear and SCUBA diving is popular. Bull Shoals is a pristine body of water. There are never any "lake smells," ugly weeds or anything else to make it less than inviting. THERE ARE NO MOSQUITOES HERE. Our dock has a 10 x 24 boat slip and a 10 x 20 swim platform and is just a 3-4 minute walk or short quad ride through the woods (about 600 feet from the house.) Bull Shoals main channel is one mile from our dock, so you have easy access to the rest of the lake, but are protected from wakes and noise. The main channel where we are is in the widest part of the lake and about 30 minutes to Bull Shoals Dam by water. The house is perfectly sited on about 7.61 acres, about half and half, pasture and woods. Bring horses, you have immediate access to plenty of places to ride. The home faces just about west so we get magnificent sunsets over the lake, and the warm winter sun. The summer sun is off to the north and does not shine directly into the house. Of course, we have Low-E windows and the houses is extremely well insulated. Each afternoon we get "diamond time" when the sun glitters off the surface of the lake. It is just captivating.

The property borders the Corps line on the lake for about 1100 feet. We have worked hard to clear our wooded areas of poison ivy, downed trees and overhanging and low branches. Our property is truly park-like, although not manicured, by any means. Wandering around the property, which is dotted by rock outcroppings and overhangs, is a year around pleasure. We have a nice mix of cedars, dogwoods, oaks, hickory, sassafras, eastern redbud and persimmon trees. Spring brings a profusion of wildflowers while Fall blazes with color. If you love the outdoors, quiet and privacy, you have found it here.

OK, I know you want to know about the house itself. It is a kiln-dried southern white pine log home. About 2800 sq. ft. 3-4 bedrooms and 2 baths. We've thoroughly sealed inside and out with top quality materials and the house is nice and tight.
I'll say it right out...the baths are well appointed, with upgraded everything, but they are not palatial. They are functional, not huge. No steam 10-person showers. This is a place where you want to spend time outdoors, or on the deck, not in the bathroom.
On the walk-out lower level is our 16 x 28 master bedroom with sitting area which has a wide open view of the lake and mountains beyond. There is a bath, and a 12x13 bedroom that we use as a dressing room with walk in closet. There is also a 12 x 13 storage/craft/workshop room plus a laundry room and generous linen closet. Outside the bedroom is an 8 x 30 shady concrete patio with a cedar swing to enjoy the sunsets over the lake and the deer in the lower pasture. There is a stunning 28 foot x 8 foot custom mural on one wall that perfectly reflects the beauty outside the windows, including the setting sun shimmering across the lake.
From the entry on the main level you enter a 20 foot tall open-plan living/dining/kitchen area. There is a full bath and two light filled 12 x 14 carpeted bedrooms with cedar lined closets and large picture windows. The kitchen counter is a custom porcelain tile design with tumbled slate border, no-maintenance epoxy grout and solid oak trim. The extra-wide peninsula is perfect for casual eating or pitching in with food preparation. The new range, sink, faucets, dishwasher and garbage disposal are all stainless. The cabinets are oak with imported hardware. The bath, living, dining and kitchen areas all have top-of-the-line "hand-hewn" laminate flooring. The lake side is all windows with a wonderful view. Facing the lake is a 22 x 30 custom bi-level deck where we spend lots of time. A pergola covers a 10 x 16 foot section of the deck. Shade-cloth awnings cover most of the rest. The columns of the pergola are worm-scrolled cedar logs from the property. The walls and ceiling in the main floor and loft area are all light and bright knotty pine! There is wheelchair access to the main level.
Water from our deep private well is clean and delicious. To further enhance purity, we have a reverse osmosis drinking water system which also feeds the ice maker. A sediment filter and water softening system service the whole house. A soft water spigot outside of the house is great for summer outdoor showers and for spot-free washing your car or whatever. We have also installed an energy saving timer for the water heater so it turns off at night.
The open third-level loft, overlooking the living/dining area, is 17 x 23. We use it as a cozy library/game room, There is a gel-fuel fireplace with solid oak mantle in one corner. On each side of the loft there are 6 x 20 storage areas with custom doors for easy access. The loft also has wonderful lake and mountain views through floor to ceiling windows on both ends.
Under the shelter of the large carport, in addition to the 2 parking spaces, there is a 12' x 20' area next to the house that we use for crafts, potting and additional seating area. That area has a double thick slab and can be easily enclosed or screened in. Also in this covered area is an electrical panel for hooking up an emergency generator. We do get occasional power outages and you can run a generator out of the weather and still get adequate protection from Carbon Monoxide.
We have just (9/09) installed a new 15.5 SEER Trane heat pump, air handler and programmable thermostat.
The driveway is "circular" gravel. The home is set well back from the road. Our road ends in a half-mile in a cul-de-sac. We get virtually no traffic!
We own 2 lots in a 12 lot "subdivision" with light restrictions to keep the property values high. The other lots are all sold, but none of the neighbors have plans for building on either side of us. Even if the neighbors were to build, there is still adequate land to insure privacy.
Across a cove behind us (you can not see it from our property) is an upscale development with a private airstrip and community dock. This whole area is fast becoming a retirement mecca.
We are 2.8 miles off pavement down a lovely county-maintained country road. Along the road are cow pastures and woods. We rarely drive the road without seeing deer, turkey road runners and other wild life. There are only three other occupied homes in the neighborhood, so traffic is minimal. We walk the road for exercise and nature viewing. Note...we are on a country road. If you are used only driving paved roads, it will take a couple of trips to get used to. What you give up in "smooth," you gain in beauty, quiet and privacy. I don't want to overstate the situation, though. People do drive the road in sedans. You won't hurt the car, but it will be more bouncy than a high way. What's your hurry anyway? If you are in a hurry, look somewhere else! This is the country! At night, from the deck, you can only see four lights and the only sounds are of nature!
If there is ever a medical emergency, we have Lifeteam AirEvac that can get you to the nearest hospital in minutes by helicopter. Our local Volunteer Fire Department has an excellent network of "First Responders," too. I've tested both services...they work!
I could go on and on. We love this place and wouldn't dream of leaving if our kids didn't go an have a grand-baby that we want to be closer to. We are not in a rush to sell, though. We have put a LOT of work and love into this place and we aren't going to give it away. But, if you want a great place in the country where you can enjoy nature, privacy, great neighbors, great views, great air, great activities...this might be for you. Property like this with easy lake access in a sheltered cove with a private dock is at a premium, of course. A 16 x 16 site-built shed completes the package.
The house is 45 min from Mountain Home which has a campus of AR State University. We are an hour from Branson, MO, the home of family oriented fun/entertainment. A new national airport south of Branson, less than an hour from us, makes air travel easy and convenient. Springfield, MO is 2 hours north and Little Rock is about 3.5 hours south.
If you are seriously interested in finding out more, give us a call at (870) 436-3212. We can send you more pictures. Please so NOT call if you are a real estate agent wanting to list the place. Serious lookers are welcome to call.
