Local Area Information

Fergus Falls is the primary city in the area. It is located in west central Minnesota lakes country, about 180 miles northwest of Minneapolis and about 25 miles east of the North Dakota border, 55 miles from Fargo/Moorhead. Agriculture is the leading industry of the county. This includes: crop farming; dairy farms; turkey farms, pig farms, and bison ranches. Tourism plays a major role, with over 100 resorts on the 1,048 lakes.

The Ottertail County area is not nearly as tourist oriented as the Park Rapids area is.  That makes for more stable businesses, such as restaurants etc. that are open only during the summer in the high tourist areas.  As such, you can enjoy the vacation-like area without having to put up with the large amounts of tourists.  It is also much nicer for anyone looking for a year round home.
