Building restrictions and requirements:

Aylesford lake is approximately 7+ miles long, and a pristine body of fresh water. It is a source for NS Power, and as such, has established an agreement to maintain full water level during the spring / summer months, and slightly
lower levels during the fall / winter.  This keeps the lake clean (it has never been deemed unsafe for swimming), and allows property owners an opportunity to work on their shoreline, saves damaging docks, rafts and wharfs and still
leaves lots of water / ice for winter recreation.  Water levels may decrease from shore line 50 feet or so - like the Bay of Fundy low tide - but this is only during the off season. Jet skis are permitted;  the lake has a few, plus lots of sailboats
(and a modest yacht club), lots of canoes, kayaks, windsurfers, powerboats and even small aircraft. There are plenty of fish (bass and perch are the most common), and a public beach on the other side see http://www.county.kings.ns.ca/PARS/Beach.htm ) 

Properties on Aylesford lake are seasonal and year long dwellings;  the road is paved around the lake, and East Side Drive is privately owned by its property owners.  The school bus travels the lake road, and the elementary and high
school are only 15 - 20 minutes away. 60 minutes from Halifax, our provincial capital, and just 75 minutes from the international airport just beyond Halifax. There is a small municipal airport in Waterville, near the Michelin Tire Plant (about 20 minutes away).  Aylesford lake is located in the beautiful Annapolis Valley.  15 - 20 minutes from Kentville and New Minas (the Annapolis Valley's largest business and shopping center).  Wolfville, the home of Acadia University,  and the Valley's cultural and fine arts center, is just 25 minutes away.  For more information about the lake and our county, see http://www.county.kings.ns.ca
